WEEKLY NOTES  - Updated March 3rd, 2010

Spanish Night Fundraiser a Great Success!

Thanks to all of you for your support, through your generosity and hard work we raised just over $31,000 our little school!  This is truly a testament to what a small community can do to support a program it believes in.

Very special thanks to our co-chairs, Rosemary Metcalf and Delsy Pantoja for the countless hours of work over the past year on this project. This was the last year for both of these dedicated ladies, and we are very grateful for their hard work. We, of course, need someone new to help take over next year’s event. If interested, please let our Director, Phil Beaumont, know.

Thanks also to Felicia Watson for all of her graphic design talents; Clea Hantman for her help with the online materials; to our FOMS Directors Lizbeth Persons Price and Jacquie Kennedy in their efforts to communicate to our families and local press; the folks at Invite Me who printed our invitations; our impromptu team of ticket vendors who woke up early or stayed late to make tickets available in front of the school; all our kids and parents who went out and sold tickets to friends and families; and of course Miss Jane.

Museum School Lottery for the 2010/2011 School Year

Change in Protocol

The application deadline for enrollment for the 2010-2011 school year is Thursday, March 18, 2010. A supervised, public lottery will be held on March 19th at 4:30 pm to determine placement in classes and rankings on the waiting list. This is a public lottery, and all are welcome to attend, though you do not need to be present to be eligible. Applications are available from our school office and at the link below, and will be accepted from September 8th through the March 18th deadline. Due to an overwhelming amount of applications for the 2010/2011 school year, our scheduled, required Parent Orientation Meetings have been canceled. For the 2010/2011 school year, parents are NOT required to come to an orientation to be eligible in the lottery.  However, if chosen for a position through the lottery, all incoming students will be required to attend a Parent Orientation Meeting on Thursday, April 29th at 5:30pm (or by other arrangement).  First preference is given to siblings of Museum School students, children of Museum School Staff and Board members, and then students within the boundaries of the San Diego Unified School District.

In lieu of the canceled Parent Orientations, we will be providing School Tours for Prospective Parents

Join our Director, Phil Beaumont for a walking tour of the Museum School to learn more about our program and see it in action.  The tour generally lasts one hour.

ABOUT THE MUSEUM SCHOOL

THE MUSEUM SCHOOL is a tuition-free, public charter school that serves
students from all over San Diego in Kindergarten through 6th grade. While
learning to read, write, do mathematics and science, “learning to learn”
is our capstone skill, supported by our “Community Goals” of becoming
responsible citizens, productive workers, creative healthy individuals,
problem solvers and self-directed learners. The Museum School’s
curriculum seeks to go beyond the basics by teaching kids how to
learn and opening opportunities to understand why they are learning.
Project based departments and enriching classes such as art, music,
sewing, movement, and media arts are part of the regular curriculum.

OUR MISSION

The Museum School celebrates, nurtures and enhances the abilities of all
participants through experiential, project-based learning. Infusing the arts
whenever appropriate the Museum School utilizes the wealth of resources
available at local museums and within the San Diego community.
